Keeping Great Relations
A great relationship is everything who we are and what we do

By: Elizabeth Merrell, Clients Relations Manager, RKC infotech (9/22/2008)

When I think about the key to keeping good client relations one word pops into my head. Authenticity. The business world is filled with a lot of justified manipulation; so much that deception can bleed into the way you relate to your clients. Most likely this will hurt your business more than it will help it; and more importantly, take a notch out of your personal integrity.

What businesses are starting to realize is that you can maintain a level of honesty without sacrificing the growth of your company. It seems that many people have become very sensitive in noticing when someone is "selling" them something. When people feel that they are being deceived, they wonder why there is a need for it, and will most likely derive the conclusion that there is a need for deception because your services are less than adequate.

A majority of consumers, ranging from large corporations to a single individual, are just looking to receive honest work. Even if you miss a deadline, or make a mistake, your client will be more likely to continue business with you if they do not feel they are being misled. More importantly, you will know for yourself that you have acted with integrity, taking responsibility for your actions if you mess up, and having pride in your work when you do well. This will promote richer, more meaningful relationships with clients in the future and may even lead to referrals to other clients.

At RKC, we strongly believe in genuine business relationships. Our view is eternal and it means more to us to do the right thing than beating our competitors. This may not be a common belief in the American business world but we firmly stand by it. Primarily we focus on creating good business relationships. Authenticity is not a business practice to us, it is a lifestyle.

My personal aim is to create a relationship with every client in which they don’t feel that it is us against them in the completion of their project but, rather, that we are a team working together to achieve their business goals. That may sound a little cheesy but it is true. Completion progresses much more quickly if we all work together!
